A Few Lessons Learned from One Month into the Bullet Journal

A Few Lessons Learned from One Month into the Bullet Journal // OurJourneyinJournals.blogspot.com
I started my bullet journal April 1, so at the beginning of May, it had officially been one month into using the bullet journal. I learned a lot of things in using it, and with the things I learned, my May set-up was even better suited for my own purposes. These are some of the lessons that I've learned.

1. Just because something works in theory doesn't mean it will actually work.

Before I actually set-up my bullet journal for the first time, I thought pretty extensively about what signifiers I would use, the things I would track, how I would draw out the monthly log, etc. However, throughout the month, I realized there were still things that didn't work for me, and those were the things that I wanted to change. Also, just because something works for someone else doesn't mean that it will work for you, but that's the beauty of the bullet journal system; you can change things however will suit your own needs. This all leads to . . .

2. Keep a list somewhere of things you want to change for next month.

This is pretty self-explanatory. It's just a good way to keep track of these things so that you actually remember to change them the next monthly set-up that you do.

3. Don't be freaked out by all the pretty pictures online!

Sometimes it's hard to remember that a lot of the people whose pictures you see on Pinterest and Instagram have been bullet journaling for a lot longer than you have, or they just have flat out more time to devote to making pretty spreads. Also, don't forget that most people, of course, only post the good pictures of the nice pages - the vast majority of people don't ever show the spreads with mistakes, smudges, etc.

4. You don't need to write down/log every little thing.

When I first started my bullet journal, I wrote down "school" as one of my events in my daily spreads. However, I didn't really need to; I know that I have school! It simply takes up space that I could use for actually important things that I need to put in my spreads.

5. Washi tape is great for covering up mistakes!

Enough said. You'll probably be able to see through the washi to some extent, but it's certainly a lot cuter than a big, glaring mess-up. Washi tape has this magical ability to make everything prettier.

Well, that's all of I've got for you all. I hope you guys enjoyed this short and sweet post, and I also hope that I will post more often in the future 😄 Finals are next week, so school has been killing me lately. But on the bright side, I only have one more week of "real" school until the academic year is over!!
